Lady Mowlson bequeaths the first undergraduate scholarship

In May 1643, Lady Mowlson of London, Ann Radcliffe, was the first to contribute a financial aid scholarship to Harvard, which included the terms: "the maintenance of some poor schollar which shall be admitted into...Harvard[']s Colledge."

Her scholarship—the Lady Mowlson 1643 Fund—has benefited countless students over the past 375 years and inspired our donors to create additional undergraduate scholarships.
