Kenneth C. Griffin gives largest gift in financial aid history

It’s about having a chance to play a part in helping to ensure the next generation of leaders in America has access to the finest institution in the world.

Ken Griffin

Upon graduation, Ken Griffin ’89 left Harvard College with no student debt—a gift from his grandmother, Genevieve Huebsch Gratz. He wanted to pay that forward and give back to his alma mater.

His $150 million gift—$125 million of which went directly to financial aid—honors the generosity and hard work of his grandmother by providing need-based financial aid for undergraduates. In recognition of Griffin’s gift, which coincided with the 10th anniversary of the Harvard Financial Aid Initiative, the Harvard College Office of Financial Aid was renamed the Griffin Financial Aid Office.
